Lydia Bartholow earns state award by American Association of Nurse Practitioners
Lydia Bartholow, DNP, PMHNP, CARN-AP, FIAAN, associate medical director at the Unity Center emergency department’s substance use disorder facility, received the American Association of Nurse Practitioners 2025 State Award for Outstanding Contributions for Oregon.
This award recognizes individuals who significantly advance health care through practice, education, advocacy, research and leadership. It highlights efforts to enhance the visibility of nurse practitioners, with one recipient honored per state each year.
Bartholow, also assistant professor of psychiatry in the OHSU School of Medicine, educates future health care providers, including nurse practitioners and medical doctors. She created the Blackburn Clinic, which integrates health care, housing and employment support, enhancing stability for individuals in the Portland metro area.
A nationally recognized expert on harm reduction and trauma-informed care for substance use disorders, Bartholow will be honored by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners at their national conference in San Diego on June 20, 2025. AANP is the largest organization representing nurse practitioners across all specialties.

Aryan Sarparast selected for Oregon Psilocybin Advisory Board
Aryan Sarparast, M.D., assistant professor in psychiatry in the OHSU School of Medicine, has been selected for a four-year term by Gov. Tina Kotek to the Oregon Psilocybin Advisory Board, or OPAB.
OPAB offers guidance to the Oregon Health Authority on the safety and effectiveness of psilocybin for mental health treatment. The board sets recommendations for psilocybin service guidelines and develops a strategic plan to ensure these services are safe, accessible, and affordable for adults 21 and older. Additionally, OPAB monitors federal laws and regulations surrounding psilocybin use.
