Following careful deliberation and a comprehensive review of feedback submitted by OHSU learners and employees and other external partners and interested parties, Chad Paulson, chair of the Oregon Health & Science University board of directors, today named Shereef Elnahal, M.D., M.B.A., OHSU’s president-select. The motion and vote to confirm Elnahal as OHSU’s next president will take place during the June 27 board meeting.

“OHSU plays a vital role in the health and well-being of all Oregonians, and its leadership must reflect a vision for excellence and innovation,” said Gov. Tina Kotek. “President-elect Dr. Shereef Elnahal has the experience and accomplishments to usher OHSU into the future and continue leading in health care, education and research.” 

The board expressed its appreciation for the 25-member Presidential Search Committee, which comprised physicians, scientists, nurses, faculty, labor partners and community members; the nearly 200 OHSU members that took the time to interview and provide feedback on the candidates; and everyone who submitted questions for, and provided feedback on, the public presentation June 5.
