Celebrate the life of Dr. Albert Starr on Dec. 10
The Oregon Health & Science University Knight Cardiovascular Institute and the OHSU Department of Surgery are honored to host a memorial service celebrating the legacy of Dr. Albert Starr, who passed away last December at age 98.

Starr was a giant in the field of cardiovascular medicine whose groundbreaking career spanned more than half a century. He is best known as a cardiovascular surgeon who co-invented and in 1960 implanted the world’s first artificial heart valve at OHSU, at that time the University of Oregon Medical School.
Dr. Starr was a visionary cardiac surgeon, innovator and humanitarian whose pioneering work in structural heart disease transformed the field and touched countless lives. In tribute to his extraordinary impact, at his memorial a new endowed professorship will be announced: the Dr. Albert Starr Endowed Professorship in Structural Heart Disease, established through the generous support of Edwards Lifesciences Foundation.
The memorial event will be held Wednesday, Dec. 10, from 2 – 4 p.m. at Marion Miller Auditorium. A reception will follow.
