As the state’s academic health center, Oregon Health & Science University has developed expertise in managing chronic and acute pain across all its missions. The OHSU Comprehensive Pain Center helps patients manage chronic pain through a multimodal approach that includes dozens of specialties ranging from medication to massage. In laboratories, basic science researchers are working to understand the molecular mechanisms behind pain and how to alleviate it. And in classrooms, OHSU has integrated pain management into the curriculum so that the next generation of health care professionals have the tools and foster the compassion to help patients in pain.
