After a competitive and comprehensive national search, I am pleased to announce, with the support of incoming President Shereef Elnahal, that Angela Sklenka, MHR, has been selected to serve as executive vice president and chief people officer, effective Sept. 15.

Ms. Sklenka comes to us from the University of South Florida, where she serves as senior vice president, chief administrative officer and chief Human Resources officer for both USF and USF Academic Health Medical College. In this capacity, she oversees human resources, information technology, facilities, construction, planning and administrative strategies. With more than 20 years of extensive experience in human resources within higher education, she has led transformational efforts in change management, operational efficiency, cultural renovation and labor relations. Additionally, she brings deep expertise in labor negotiations, building collaborative union-management partnerships across complex environments in academic health systems and other organizations. She has consistently demonstrated a leadership style that inspires people, improves processes and elevates organizational culture.

In this role, she will be charged with transforming HR into a high-performing and people-centric service organization that supports OHSU’s mission of clinical care, research and education. She will work with the executive leadership team to develop and implement plans to improve culture, and she will oversee continued progress in implementing recommendations identified in previous culture and process reviews.

Dr. Elnahal, who had the opportunity to interview our finalists, appreciates Ms. Sklenka’s strategic thinking and planning, combined with a customer service focus. “Ms. Sklenka has helped USF make significant improvements in their shared services design and implementation, and I believe she will be a strong asset to OHSU’s executive leadership team.”
