In a story about challenges facing Oregon nursing schools, Susan Bakewell Sachs, Ph.D., RN, notes OHSU’s 30-30-30 initiative is supporting tuition assistance and more to recruit and retain diverse nursing students, while the school’s Oregon Nursing Education Academy is helping grow the state’s nurse education workforce. She says OHSU is helping build “the workforce of the future. We want to align workforces to mirror society. If we increase the diversity of our students, we want to have faculty to align with that as well."

I don’t even know how that could work. mRNA degrades under ambient conditions and the challenges posed by delivery requirements would be insurmountable. In a standard mRNA vaccine, the vaccine is stored refrigerated, usually shielded from extreme agitation, and delivered in high dose by means that allow effective absorption.”

25% of low-income older Americans lack health insurance

A study led by Nathalie Huguet, Ph.D., finds about a quarter of low-income older Americans do not have health insurance. Huguet says: "It’s particularly concerning to think of older adults not having health insurance, given that the prevalence of disease and related complications increase with age.”

ER wait times are rising in Oregon

As ED wait times rise in Oregon, OHSU spokesperson Erik Robinson tells Axios Portland that OHSU used to publish wait times on its website but found it "untenable" to keep up: "Waiting times can fluctuate significantly from hour to hour based on demand, as well as the relative urgency of each case."

Wade was overturned, the ground has shifted, even in Oregon, which has the strongest legal protections for abortion of any state in the U.S. Alison Edelman, M.D., says, OHSU is seeing “a huge group of individuals below 12 weeks, a big gap and a large number over 20 weeks. They’re calling from states where (abortion) is criminalized. They’re very scared and they think they’re doing something illegal and have to jump through hoops to get to us, so they’re nervous they’re not going to get safe care, when that’s the furthest from the truth.”
