Psychiatrists Tough to Find for Seniors in Medicare Advantage Plans

In a new study, Jane Zhu, M.D., finds that older adults with private Medicare coverage may not be getting the mental health services they need because they cannot find a psychiatrist within their plan’s network. Zhu says, “This means that many people who have coverage through Medicare Advantage plans may not actually have access to psychiatrists, given how few are considered in-network.”

Researchers warn about possible impacts of cannabis use during pregnancy

New OHSU research finds that exposing a pregnant subject to THC altered the placental and fetal epigenome, potentially leading to lifelong health outcomes for offspring. The study’s lead author, Jamie Lo, M.D., says, “I hope our work can help open up a broader dialogue about the risks of cannabis use in the preconception and prenatal period, so we can improve children’s health in the long run.”
