In a study that finds adults who have chronic parathyroid hormone insufficiency were more likely to have a cardiovascular event if they have a higher proportion of albumin-corrected serum calcium measurements, Sanjiv Kaul, M.D., and colleagues write: “Although the body of evidence suggests the increased risk for cardiovascular events in patients with chronic hypoparathyroidism is related to abnormalities in serum calcium and phosphate, additional evidence is required."

In a CBC story raising questions about “excited delirium” as a cause of death in violent police arrests in Canada, Michael Freeman, M.D., says, “It’s an interesting theory which always directs the gaze for the cause of death away from the restraining personnel, and so if you say it’s excited delirium, it’s basically the fault of the person who died. Then you don’t have to look any further. You don’t have to look at how potentially the restraint killed the person.”
