BostonGene Computational Tool Reconstructs Tumor Microenvironments

GenomeWeb August 17, 2022
In a GenomeWeb article on a computational tool that has the ability to reconstruct tumor microenvironment, Gordon Mills, M.D., Ph.D., says: "The ability to accurately define cell types from deconvolution of RNA-seq data would represent a major advance in the field. The Kassandra decision tree algorithm was designed and trained on a very large set of RNA-seq data, including data from purified populations that was not available in the development of prior algorithms."

A New Blood Donation Center in Beaverton Wants to Pay You for Your Platelets

Portland Monthly August 15, 2022
A new blood donation center will pay for blood platelet donations to help alleviate a shortage in Oregon. Trisha Wong, M.D., says: "Because platelets have the shortest expiration date of all the blood products, the platelet inventory most often limits our ability to provide optimal care for our patients. As a result, OHSU and hospitals everywhere must make difficult decisions about which patients receive platelet transfusions and who must wait."
